Genre selection is critical as your campaign's performance will depend on it.

Sometimes it can be challenging to select a specific genre for a song: music's spectrum is so wide that possibilities are infinite.

How to select genres correctly?

1) Use special tools to look for similar artists like http://everynoise.com or https://www.chosic.com/music-genre-finder/

On http://everynoise.com website just enter the name of a similar artist or band in the search field in the upper right corner and you'll see the list of genres:

On https://www.chosic.com enter the name of a song with similar genres and check the Spotify genres for it:

If similar artists are associated with a specific sub-genre, that can guide your choice. For example, if your music is similar to artists known for "Synthpop," you might decide to use that as your primary genre.

2) Make sure only relevant genres are selected as they will influence the campaign results.

3) Narrow down to specific genres but not broad ones to improve the matching and reach the right playlists. By selecting specific genres, you increase the chances of getting your music sent to the curators who are genuinely interested in and experienced with that style.

Let's say your music has elements of pop, electronic, and indie. Instead of selecting broad categories like "Pop" or "Electronic", consider the specific elements that define your music. If your songs have catchy melodies, relatable lyrics, and a pop structure, you might choose "Indie Pop" as a more specific genre.

If your music has electronic beats, synthesizers, and a modern production style, you might go even further and choose "Indie Electronic Pop" or a sub-genre that closely aligns with your sound. Selecting only "Pop" or "Electronic" will send your song to all curators who own playlists with "Pop" or "Electronic" genres but by selecting precisely "Indie Electronic Pop" you will be matched with the curators interested in "Indie Electronic Pop" music.

If you are struggling with selecting your campaign's genres, you can always get our assistance via live chat. Our moderators will recommend the best genres for your track, however, our recommendations are not a guarantee of a successful campaign.
